Chapter 345: His Retribution
Chapter 345: His Retribution
Dominique promised Sasha to give her an answer next week. However, after learning the truth that Alfonso Williams was the real culprit, Sasha could no longer blackmail him.
Today, he visited Sasha to talk to her one last time.
"You came earlier than I expected. Have you made up your mind, Dom?" Sasha asked him, smiling broadly.
"Whether you like it or not, you have no choice. I know you don’t want to ruin Albert’s perfect Dad image for Sabrina."
Dominique looked at her with an indifferent expression on his face. "Sasha, let’s stop this. I’m not going to marry you. You can’t force me to love you. And I have no plan of starting a new family."
Sasha’s face contorted with irritation. "Why are you so stubborn, Dom?! Fine. I’ll tell Sabrina right away. And I will tell the whole media about it. You can’t shut my mouth from speaking the truth. If you want to silence me, then you’ll have to kill me first!"
Dominique sighed deeply. He didn’t have the energy to argue with her. He just came today to say goodbye to her. After all, she was once his friend who supported him.
"Sasha, we were so wrong... from the start. Albert Williams is not the real culprit behind my family’s murder. We were all deceived by Alfonso. I already learned the truth. I captured the gang leader who attacked us that night. He already confessed and told me the real mastermind. It’s Alfonso."
Sasha’s eyes widened in disbelief. "No! You are just telling me this because you don’t want me to reveal the truth to Sabrina."
She refused to believe Dominique.
Tired of arguing with her, Dominique just picked up his phone and showed her the footage of the gang leader’s confession.
Sasha was speechless for a long moment, just watching the video.
’Oh no! It’s true... Albert is innocent... Everything was Alfonso’s scheme.’ Sasha slumped her body into the chair as the truth sank into her mind.
She shook her head frantically while grabbing Dominique’s hands. "Since her father is innocent, are you going to reconcile with Sabrina now? Will you try to get together with her again because of this?"
Dominique crouched down as he met her gaze. He smiled bitterly before shaking his head.
"No. I won’t do that. I have no right to be with her anymore. I directed my revenge at the wrong person. Staying away from her and getting out of her life is the least thing I can do for her."
Sasha was stunned upon hearing that. She didn’t expect those words from Dominique. He was truly letting go of Sabrina. She should feel happy about that. However, the sorrowful expression on Dominique’s face made her heart tighten inside her chest.
This time, Dominique cupped her face. "Sasha... you were my friend. So, for the sake of our friendship, you have to learn to let me go. Just forget about me and find someone else. I appreciate all the things you did to help me. So please... I have a favor to ask. Please live your life for yourself. Find your happiness. Don’t revolve your world around me."
"I didn’t come here to argue with you. I want to fix the friendship that we once had. Please... stop chasing after me. Let me go... I also forgave you for the wrongdoings you did to Sabrina and me..."
Hearing his sincere words, Sasha couldn’t help but break down. She didn’t know why, but for the first time, she had heard the most sincere words from Dominique. Her tears fell from the corners of her eyes.
"I-I... u-understand, Dom..." she uttered in between her sobs. "I will try my best to forget you...." Her tears kept flowing like raindrops.
’Am I doing the right thing? Can I truly let him go?’ She pondered to herself.
To her surprise, Dominique suddenly pulled her into a warm hug. "Thank you, Sasha. I’m really glad to hear this from you."
For some reason, Dominique’s hug comforted her aching heart. This was the first ever genuine hug she received from him... the man she had always loved.
"I’m sorry, Sasha... if I couldn’t reciprocate your feelings. I know I hurt you. But it wasn’t my intention. In this life... I only love Sabrina... I hope in our next life, you won’t meet me... You should fall in love with someone who can cherish you the way you do. This is my wish for you."
Sasha broke the hug to look at his face. "Why do you sound like you are saying goodbye, Dom?"
"We can still be friends, right?"
Dominique just gave her a meaningful smile, his fingers wiping her tears away.
"Of course, we can still be friends. But promise me... that you will have a fresh start. I do really hope you will apologize to Sabrina. We are the ones who hurt her and her family."
Sasha pouted her lips. She was reluctant to say yes. But after meeting Dominique’s earnest gaze, she couldn’t refuse him.
"Fine. I’ll apologize to her sincerely. You don’t have to worry. I won’t bother her anymore. I promise," she conceded.
Dominique’s eyes lit up, feeling relieved. "Thanks, Sasha."
"By the way, we can hang out tomorrow. Let’s invite Ashton. I also want you to reconcile with him."
Sasha didn’t know what to feel at the mention of Ashton’s name. She was already aware of his feelings for her.
"Okay. But you should invite him yourself," Sasha said.
"Don’t worry. I’ll call him later."
*****
After talking to Sasha, Dominique headed to the hospital. His doctor summoned him for a very important matter.
When Dominique entered his doctor’s office, Gael had seen him. It just so happened that Gael had attended a seminar in that same hospital.
"That’s Dominique. What is he doing here?" Gael murmured to himself.
"Dr. Gael, can you wait here for a moment. Dr. Philip is still talking to his patient."
Dr. Philip was part of their research team. Gael decided to visit him after attending the seminar. But he didn’t expect to see Dominique. Coincidentally, Dominique was the patient the nurse was referring to.
"It’s okay. I’m just going to wait here." Gael said, dismissing the nurse who escorted him to Dr. Philip’s office.
When the nurse left, Gael could no longer stay still. He was curious about Dominique. So even though he knew it was wrong, he tried to eavesdrop on their conversation.
He had just leaned on the door when he heard Dr. Philip’s voice.
"What do you mean you are not going to undergo treatment?! Dominique... we can still cure you. Your stomach cancer is still in the early stage. Why are you refusing to get treated and undergo surgery?!" Dr. Philip exclaimed in disbelief.
"Don’t you trust me?" Dr. Philip asked again.
Dominique just smiled at him. "I’ve made up my mind, Doc. There is no need for me to undergo treatment. I just want to live my life... like this. If I meant to die, then be it."
"You’ve lost your mind, Dominique. I know I can’t force you, but this doesn’t make any sense. You can live! Don’t you have any reason left to live? I thought you had a son... and that you were still going to make it up to the woman you love?" Dr. Philip didn’t want him to give up.
"They will be happier without me... Besides, I think I deserve to die... after hurting the woman I love. This is my retribution..."
