Chapter 339: Traveling Through The Hollow Plains, Finding a Settlement
Chapter 339: Traveling Through The Hollow Plains, Finding a Settlement
Leon left the [Imperial Kingdom] far behind him as he followed the [World Map] toward the location of the [Time Tower], moving at a speed that most players could only dream of achieving.
He didn’t stop for anything on the way, not even bothering to engage with the monsters properly, instead killing them from afar with his spells as they approached because they simply didn’t stand a chance against his overwhelming power.
At some point level 80 monsters started appearing in greater numbers, but they also didn’t give that much experience points to someone who was already level 83 and climbing.
Leon simply used them for attribute gains as he kept consuming their essences, and for eternal coins as he kept selling their drops on the trading house.
The entire area between the major locations where there was basically nothing of interest was called the [Hollow Plains], and indeed, it was pretty hollow and empty compared to the other zones he had traveled through.
Leon saw almost no players during his journey, but those he did see were mainly farming for essences, items and materials just like him, and they were all around level 90 from what he could tell.
After almost an entire day had passed with Leon still moving forward and climbing up the [Hollow Mountains] that stretched across the landscape, he decided to take a well deserved break and rest his legs for a bit.
And surprisingly, while resting, he found something astonishing hidden in the mountains that he had not expected to see.
In the middle of the chain of mountains was a small camp with dozens of players like him, all gathered together in a makeshift settlement.
They had set up tents, cooking equipment, food supplies and everything else they needed to survive for weeks out here, and they were all from many different races and backgrounds.
There was surprisingly no discrimination happening in this camp, with everyone treating each other with respect, and Leon even found some humans in there alongside elves, demons, beastfolk and more.
’I mean, yeah, at one point a person has to recognize that there are other races out there and they aren’t all bad,’ Leon sighed to himself, ’Its not always negative... I think.’
A proud elf that refused to see humans, demons and such as actual beings wouldn’t get very far in this world, especially not in the higher domains where cooperation was key to survival.
"We’re a group of players trying to discover if there’s anything worthwhile hidden far in this place," one of the members of the group grinned at Leon as they welcomed him into their camp, "You can join us on our expedition if you want to."
"No thanks, I appreciate the offer though," Leon shook his head politely, "I’m aiming for somewhere close to here, so I won’t be going all the way with you."
Of course, that was a complete lie because the [Time Tower] was still very far away, likely taking a few more days for Leon to reach it at his current pace.
But still, he would much rather not tell anybody where he was actually going, because you never knew what might happen.
Everything was fine after that initial conversation, since Leon’s combat power was so incredibly high, even these level 90 players weren’t able to see his full panel when they tried to appraise him.
Leon simply told them he had a special skill that prevented panel checking, and they believed him without much questioning.
No one wanted their own panels to get checked by strangers after all, it was a matter of privacy and safety, and so Leon did not use [Appraisal] either on any of them to respect that mutual understanding.
After getting to know them better over some shared food, they told him they had apparently been traveling for weeks to reach this point in the mountains.
With such a large group moving together and without Leon’s insane [Agility] attribute boosting their speed, it made perfect sense that they were much slower than he was on his own.
Even at his maximum speed it had taken him an entire day to reach this place after all, and that was without even stopping to fight any monsters properly.
"And what happens once you actually do find something, you just turn around and return to the kingdom?" Leon asked curiously.
"Who knows, maybe we’ll discover something crazy and it’ll help us all grow stronger together!" a woman in the group grinned optimistically.
"Or a powerful skill that none of us have ever seen before!"
Many members of the group gave their own ideas of what could happen at the end of their journey, though Leon felt like none of that would actually come true based on his own instincts.
’Perhaps the [Time Tower] is the thing waiting at the end of this path, though I seriously doubt its that simple,’ Leon thought to himself.
Much like in the [Lower Domains] where there had been clear a boundary, AKA the [Farlands], there must be a similar "limit" to this world that players couldn’t pass in the [Higher Domains].
An hour passed with Leon discussing various topics with the group until suddenly, something interrupted their conversation.
Honk!
He heard a loud horn echo through the mountains, which suddenly made him rise to his feet and tighten his grip around his sword and staff, ready for anything.
On the other hand, the rest of the members of the group simply rose calmly and took a respectful pose as they pressed their hands on their chests in some kind of greeting gesture.
"The leader is here after his hunt, everyone welcome him back!" one of the members announced loudly.
All of the members of the group bowed their heads in respect, with Leon being the only one remaining still and not bowing to anyone.
And from around a corner of the mountain behind a large tree, another player suddenly appeared, holding a massive bear-like monster over his shoulder like it weighed nothing.
The thing looked like it weighed several tons at least, and yet the man simply brought it to the campsite and placed it on the ground with a heavy thud.
"That’s our food for the day," he spoke to the members of his group with a satisfied smile, "That thing’s a level 91 [Hollow Bear] so the meat should be really good for all of us."
All of the members excitedly rushed toward the monster and started to use their weapons and knives to butcher it, eager for the fresh meal.
Everything was fine after that, or at least it was fine until the leader’s gaze landed on Leon and he stopped smiling.
"Who is he?" the leader asked one of his group members, pointing at Leon.
"A human that found our camp by chance, he seems to also want to head deeper into the [Hollow Plains] like us," the member replied casually.
"Hm..." the leader said, his eyes narrowing with suspicion.
The man used [Appraisal] on Leon, and in comparison to all the others who had tried and failed, his appraisal actually worked, and he was able to see Leon’s basic panel information.
Of course, he couldn’t see anything beside the ID and level, but even then, that small amount of information was enough to shake his soul slightly.
"CELESTIAL," he shouted loudly while pointing directly at Leon, grabbing his blade in his hand and readying himself for a fight.
