Chapter 259 The Eighty-One Tribulations are Completed, and the Journey to the West is Finally Fulfilled!
Earth Immortal.
"There are eighty-one tribulations, and only the last one remains to be overcome."
On Mount Sumeru, Zhunti watched as Sun Wukong and his companions successfully overcame the eighty tribulations, and the sage couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
There was no way around it; since the beginning of the Investiture of the Gods, many variables had arisen. Even though prior arrangements had been made, Zhunti was still very anxious. The fact that things had gone so smoothly this time was beyond his expectations.
At this moment, Jieyin asked, "Junior brother, regarding these eighty-one tribulations, we promised the underworld that they would arrange the final tribulation. This matter—"
"Senior brother, Zhao Gongming isn't here. The calamity has finally progressed so smoothly; we mustn't let him suffer any more consequences."
.
"Let the underworld arrange this final trial; we only need to wait for our merits to be fulfilled and for us to gather boundless fortune."
Zhunti slowly opened his mouth, and then a divine thought flew out, heading towards the underworld.
"Um?
'
Pingxin, who was cultivating, received a message from Zhunti and immediately got up to report the matter to Houtu.
"I see."
Houtu nodded slightly, and then a divine thought flew out. The next moment, a monkey radiating spiritual light appeared in front of her.
Houtu said calmly, "During the Great Calamity of Creation, the Chaos Demon Ape, one of the three thousand Chaos Gods and Demons, was killed by my father. Its origin was divided into four parts, giving birth to the Spiritual Stone Monkey, the Red-Bottomed Macaque, the Long-Armed Ape, and you, the Six-Eared Macaque."
"When the real and fake Sun Wukong were in trouble, you were killed by a single blow and should have been reborn as an animal. I saved you, so your karma with Father God Pangu can be considered settled."
Upon hearing this, the Six-Eared Macaque immediately bowed and said, "That's how it should be, that's how it should be."
Houtu nodded slightly and continued, "Right now, I will give you another opportunity, and at the same time help you settle the karma between you and Sun Wukong. You and Sun Wukong are both transformed from the Chaos Demon Ape's origin, and your origins are the same. In a moment, you will do this, and this—"
"Many thanks to the Holy One for his great kindness!!!"
After hearing Houtu's words, the Six-Eared Macaque knelt down in gratitude and was then put into Pingxin's sleeve and flown towards Mount Ling.
Before long, Pingxin arrived above the four travelers. She shouted, "Sun Wukong, you dared to wreak havoc in the underworld that day, creating a great karmic debt with us. You still want to become a Buddha and live a carefree life? You're dreaming!"
Having said that, without giving Sun Wukong any chance to explain, he slapped the four of them into the river.
"Is this the final trial arranged by the underworld?"
Zhunti and Jieyin, who were keeping a close eye on the area, also exchanged a glance.
Pingxin would never kill Sun Wukong; such an action would seem more like venting his anger. The only slightly troublesome thing was that it would soak the scriptures.
After doing all this, Pingxin flicked his sleeves, snorted coldly, and turned to leave.
After a long time, the four of them finally climbed out of the river, all looking disheveled and cursing Pingxin as they continued their journey toward Mount Ling.
Zhunti also checked on the four people and was relieved to see that they were unharmed.
"Thus, having overcome the eighty-one tribulations, our Buddhist community will surely prosper in this great eon!"
At this moment, even the saints Zhunti and Jieyin couldn't help but get excited. How long had they waited for this day? After this, immeasurable merit and fortune would gather in Buddhism, and the two of them, senior brothers, would finally be able to hold their heads high among the saints of the Heavenly Dao!
"Boom!"
On this day, when the four of them reached the height of Mount Ling, beneath the Nine Netherworlds, the Wheel of Reincarnation of the Six Paths suddenly roared.
Beyond the Three Realms, in the Tushita Palace of the Thirty-Three Heavens, the banana leaf fan in the hand of Laozi paused slightly.
Inside the Purple Cloud Palace outside the Thirty-Third Heaven, the boundless gaze of Dao Ancestor Hongjun pierced through endless time and space.
Even the Heavenly Dao above the Thirty-Six Heavens was stirred by mysterious ripples at this moment.
This great calamity was predetermined since the beginning of time. At that time, the Heavenly Dao calculated cause and effect and deduced the number of the great calamity: a stone monkey was born on Flower Fruit Mountain in Dongsheng Divine Continent and stirred up chaos in the Three Realms.
Marshal Tianpeng, after getting drunk, flirted with Chang'e and was banished to the mortal world.
The general who rolled up the curtain smashed the glass cup and was banished to the quicksand.
The third prince of the West Sea Dragon King set fire to the pearl, which then transformed into a white horse.
Throughout the ten directions and three realms, countless entanglements of cause and effect, and the flow of karma, all converge on that 108,000-mile journey to the west.
Fourteen years of cold and heat, 108,000 miles of clouds and mist. Eighty-one tribulations, each one a matter of life and death. Returning to the true self, each truth a test of one's Daoist heart.
Now, Mount Ling is in sight, and the true scriptures are about to be completed!
Great Thunder Temple.
This supreme holy land, standing atop the Thirty-Three Heavens, is hosting its most grand ceremony since the beginning of the Dragon-Han Calamity.
As the sun rose, the first ray of Buddha's light shot into the sky from the Mahavira Hall, transforming into a dazzling pillar of light that pierced through the thirty-three heavens, instantly shaking the three realms!
On Flower Fruit Mountain in the Eastern Continent, monkeys and their offspring kneel before the waterfall, feeling the throbbing deep within their blood.
In the southern continent of Jambudvipa, in the city of Chang'an, Emperor Taizong of Tang, Li Shimin, stood on a high platform, gazing westward, and sensed a trace of merit rising in the darkness.
On the ancient battlefield beneath the eternal ice of Beiju Luzhou, a rusty demon-slaying staff suddenly trembled, emitting a deep hum.
At the foot of Mount Ling, in Xiniu Hezhou, the mountains and rivers stretch for eight hundred miles, all bowing down to Mount Ling.
The Lingxiao Palace.
Haotian sat high above the heavens, looking down upon all living beings, his face revealing neither joy nor anger. Below him, the Thousand-Mile Eye and the Wind-Following Ear prostrated themselves on the ground, trembling all over—they had just reported that the pilgrims on their journey to the West had arrived at Mount Ling.
"The cycle of Heaven is turning, and the great calamity is about to end." The Jade Emperor's voice was as calm as still water. "My ministers, come with me to Mount Ling to witness the ceremony."
At this time, the Great Thunder Temple was already packed with people.
The eight great bodhisattvas are arranged on both sides: Manjushri Bodhisattva sits on a blue lion, Samantabhadra Bodhisattva rides on the back of a white elephant, Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva holds a willow branch and a vase, Maitreya Buddha always smiles, Vajrapani Bodhisattva is incomparably powerful, Akasagarbha Bodhisattva is compassionate and smiling, and Sarvanivaranaviskambhin Bodhisattva is calm as water.
Five hundred Arhats stood in mid-air, including golden, silver, bronze, and iron Arhats, with the four great Dharma protectors each occupying a side. Eighteen Sangharama monks each carried their respective implements, providing comprehensive protection.
The three thousand Jiedi (priests) were so numerous they covered the entire Mahavira Hall, making it impossible to move. Golden Jiedi, Silver Jiedi,
Jade Gate, Lapis Lazuli Gate — their colorful robes shimmered and glowed under the Buddha's light.
Eighteen Arhats, nineteen Sangharama, thirty-five gods, and eight hundred Vajras—all the gods and Buddhas, some sitting, some standing, some flying, and some swimming, filled this ancient and supreme sacred site to the brim.
At the very front, the Four Heavenly Kings—Dhritarashtra, Virudhaka, Virupaksha, and Vaishravana—stood at the four corners, their magical implements gleaming brightly.
Brahma and Indra, as guardian deities, stood solemnly on either side of the temple entrance.
Although Dipankara Buddha has abdicated, he still sits on the lotus throne with other Buddhas of the past, such as Krakucchanda Buddha, Kanakamuni Buddha, and Kassapa Buddha, to witness this unprecedented grand occasion.
Such a grand spectacle truly is—ten thousand immortals paying homage, and all the Buddhas arriving!
Where all eyes were focused, the Buddha of Many Treasures sat serenely on his nine-tiered lotus throne.
The Daoist aura flowed through the thirty-three heavens, and the eighty-one streams of merit surrounded him, demonstrating the supreme status of this Buddhist sage.
The Buddha of Many Treasures has a solemn appearance, with a face like a full moon, a white hair between his eyebrows radiating light, and lips like painted vermilion. All thirty-two major marks and eighty minor marks of a great man shine brightly at this moment.
Suddenly, he slightly opened his eyes and uttered the Buddhist chant: "Amitabha."
As soon as the Buddhist chant ended, the entire Great Thunderclap Temple fell silent.
Even the surging golden lotuses, the falling flowers, and the resounding chanting outside the hall froze in an instant, as if the entire world was listening to this supreme sound!
