Chapter 212: A stroll
Chapter 212: A stroll
"Will you be fine on your own?" Amanda asked with concern as Kyle reached for the bathroom door.
Kyle reassured her, "Yeah, I’m good." He would be embarrassed letting her...handle things. Yeah, she had seen all of him, but still.
His body was working just fine. He might be a little exhausted but he has faced worse days when he was sick and alone. This much was nothing.
Amanda told him, "If you need help, just let me know, okay? I’ll be outside."
Kyle nodded before entering the stall.
For her peace of mind, he didn’t lock the door.
He approached the toilet and lifted the lid before taking care of his business.
As he did, his mind drifted back to the interrogation he faced.
That man...his card was still in his pocket and his words lingered in his mind.
He definitely knew something more than others. The very reason he actually wasn’t invested in knowing about the assailants or their purpose to attack him was alarming
It felt more like an interrogation focused on discerning Kyle’s abilities and experience.
It was strange.
’Talking about the battle...’ He sighed as his mind unintionally drifted to the feed he watched before they arrived.
The battle...
It was insane.
The greatest battle of his life, but also the most life-changing.
He had discovered a lot about himself.
Even though it wasn’t the first time he had fought a Special-grade, this one had been different.
With Ava, it was mostly about surviving and escaping. He held no intention to actually fight or win. It was that hatred he felt towards her upon learning her behavior toward Layena that he actually attacked her.
But this was different.
He has utilised his cards by himself and actually won.
"Haaah.." Once he finished, he moved to the wash basin. Using some hand wash, he cleaned his hands before splashing water onto his face.
He remained standing there for a moment before gripping the edges of the basin.
Looking up at his reflection, he muttered, ’Haah... let’s see.’
His chest beat a little faster as he focused on his eyes.
Calling upon God’s Eye through a command, he felt the familiar change.
The dark irises were illuminated by brilliant gold, and instantly, the world came into sharper focus.
His eyesight had never been poor, yet somehow his reflection appeared far more pristine.
He could see the ridges beneath the bandages, the dryness around his nose, and the faint rise and fall of his chest with each breath.
’I’m getting better at this.’
He had come here to pee, but now he wanted to explore a little.
Focusing on the mirror, he willed himself to see beyond it.
There was no command, only intent.
He didn’t tell God’s Eye or the system what he wanted.
He used God’s Eye the same way he used his arms or legs.
Like a natural movement.
And guess what?
’I can see it...’
Beyond the bathroom wall was another ward, empty except for medical supplies stored inside.
His vision passed through the tools and equipment stands, reaching all the way to the far end of the room.
Then he stopped.
Frowning, a thought crossed his mind.
Could he only look forward?
No, his eyes possessed a perception range of at least one hundred and eighty degrees.
’But at that time...’
He had clearly seen the entire room, including himself.
It had been as though he were observing reality from an entirely different perspective.
Like a game.
Was that the true potential of God’s Eye?
To surpass every limitation of perception and become... an actual god?
He took a deep breath and closed his eyes.
For a moment, his vision turned black.
Blank.
Then he focused.
God’s Eye had never truly been limited to his physical sight.
And just as he expected, his vision suddenly cleared.
He found himself standing inside the bathroom.
Or rather, looking at himself standing inside the bathroom.
He could see his own body from above, rigid and motionless before the mirror, head slightly lowered.
Looking left, then right, he tested the strange perspective.
Finally, he turned toward the door.
And succeeded.
A grin spread across his face.
That meant there were no actual limitations after all.
He pushed forward and breached the wall, directing his sight into the hospital room.
Layena and Amanda were chatting.
Or rather, Amanda was doing most of the talking while Layena listened, speaking only occasionally.
His gaze settled on Amanda.
He found himself observing the small details.
The way her soft lips parted and closed as she spoke.
The gentle flutter of her lashes.
The silky fall of her hair.
The way her eyes seemed to convey more than words ever could.
"Hmm?"
Kyle stiffened.
Without warning, Amanda turned and looked directly toward him.
The connection shattered instantly.
His vision snapped back.
Stepping away from the basin, he stared at his reflection in the mirror.
His eyes were wide.
And his heart was beating just a little faster.
’What... was that?’
"Kyle?" Amanda’s voice came from outside the bathroom. "Are you okay?"
He suddenly snapped out of his daze and turned toward the door.
"I... yeah, coming out now."
Shaking his head, he decided not to push himself any further.
He was glad to be gaining a better grasp of his first and most reliable skill, but there was no reason to force himself to master it all at once.
[You are doing quite well, Host. Your proficiency has already risen to two hundred.]
[For now, allow your body and mind to relax while continuing to train with God’s Eye in this manner.]
[The more you experiment, the more you will discover about its capabilities.]
Kyle silently nodded.
That made sense.
After all, he had only possessed God’s Eye for a little over a month.
Yet despite such a short period, it had already become an indispensable part of his life.
Taking one final look at his reflection, he dismissed God’s Eye.
The golden brilliance faded from his irises, leaving behind their familiar darkness.
Then he turned, opened the bathroom door, and stepped back into the room.
"Did something happen?" Layena asked, her brows knitting together.
Amanda wanted to click her tongue. This darn woman.
Still, she chose to focus on her lover instead.
"I just felt a sudden burst of Genesis from inside," she said. "Did something happen?"
Kyle was taken aback.
He had thought he had gotten better at controlling it, but apparently God’s Eye still created quite a significant disturbance whenever it was activated.
Shaking his head, he replied, "No... I just need to sit down."
Amanda nodded and gently took his hand, leading him toward the bed.
"Do you want to eat something before taking your medicine?"
Kyle paused for a moment before saying, "No, wait, Amanda... I don’t want to sit here anymore." He rested his hands on his waist and exhaled a long sigh.
Amanda blinked in surprise.
"What?"
Kyle looked at her, then shifted his gaze toward Layena. A grin slowly spread across his face as he asked,
"Want to go on a late-night stroll?"
Layena immediately frowned.
"You shouldn’t be moving around. We know you’re healed and can walk without any obvious problems, but you can never be one hundred percent certain. What if something goes wrong?"
Amanda nodded, actually agreeing with Layena for once.
"She’s right, Kyle. You should give your body at least a day of proper rest before moving around too much. You never know what hidden ailment might show up. And if you’re gone for too long, the nurse will notice. The first person she’ll inform is your brother."
Kyle let out a long sigh.
He felt caged in here.
This was probably the second time in a single week that he had been admitted to the hospital, and he absolutely hated it.
The sterile walls, the constant supervision, the feeling of being monitored and asked questions by the doctor was quite depressing.
None of it suited him.
After a brief silence, he looked between the two women and made a compromise.
"Then how about the rooftop?" he suggested. "Just for a little while."
Seeing neither of them immediately object, he pressed on.
"Half an hour. We’ll just take a short stroll, and after that, I promise I’ll come back and rest."
The innocent smile on his face carried a hint of pleading.
Both women felt their heart beating a little faster. Suddenly, all the resistance they held melted like butter inside a microwave.
They didn’t need to exchange glance or think for long to draw a conclusion.
"We can definitely make an exception."
"That’s right. A small stroll wouldn’t hurt."
Kyle grinned instantly. Somehow, this brief freedom felt much more precious than the recent victory.
